Welcome to Beginner Skirtmaking 101! A Paper Pattern is provided as part of the class purchase price. This is a 6-week course designed to introduce beginners to the art of garment making by following a simple pattern and sewing a skirt. The pattern comes in sizes 10-24. If you wear smaller than a size 10, worry not! We will help you easily adjust the pattern to your size. If you are size 0-8, please follow the size 10 fabric guidelines. Please see Page 2 Photo in this class gallery for Sizing and Fabric Requirements. We will be making View B or View C. Fabric: You will need between 0.7m and 1.05m of fabric depending on your size. Fabric Requirements: • Please see Page 2 for the Size Guidelines and fabric requirements • 36” x 6” of iron-on interfacing • 1 x 9” (22cm) zipper • 1 spool of matching thread Fabric DO’s: cotton, quilting cotton, linen, non-stretch polyester, lightweight wool, gabardine, light or medium weight denim Fabric DON’TS: please DO NOT get stretchy fabric, see through fabric, anything super You can learn: - How to use your sewing machine - Essential sewing techniques - How to read and adjust a pattern to your measurements - Garment sewing and finishing techniques - Installing a zipper, waistband and hemming techniques ***This class will run for 6 weeks on Thursday afternoons from 12:00pm - 2:30pm *** Instruction Hours: 6 classes x 2.5 hours = 15 hours total instruction Best For: Sewing beginners with a little bit of experience, and intermediate sewists who would like to learn to sew using a paper pattern. Must know how to thread a machine and basic operation. If you're brand new to sewing and have never sewn before, check out our Sewing Machine Basics for Beginners Workshop. Included: Rental of a classroom sewing machine is included (or bring your own). Skirt Pattern is included. Not Included: Fabric, zipper and interfacing. A list of required materials will be emailed to you upon registration. We will include material quantities, notions you will need (scissors, pins), etc. With step-by-step guidance from your teacher and a small class size of 6, you will gain confidence in your sewing abilities and come away with a custom fitted, handmade garment. All notions can be purchased from the Sewing Machine Sales & Repair Centre with a 15% student discount with proof of class purchase. The classroom is located upstairs above the Sewing Machine Sales & Repair Centre. Please note The Sewing School is accessible by stairs only. Starting date of class is dependent upon required number of students (6). Should minimum student enrollment not be met, class dates may be changed and students will be informed ahead of time.
