Modern bars Quilt with Johanna Masko The Modern Bars quilt has been designed with the new quilter in mind. Inspired by an Amish quilt classic, this version encourages playing with pattern and colour. Choose a minimalist two-colour scheme, or combine up to seven different fabrics. These simple rectangles are quick to cut and stitch together, leaving time to assemble the top, batting (the cozy, inside layer), and backing into a proper quilt. This project is constructed using a sewing machine. You will learn these foundational skills: Working with a 1/4” seam allowance How to measure and accurately cut your fabrics Safe and efficient rotary cutter technique How to use gridded acrylic rulers Best practices for building a “quilt sandwich” Beginner friendly quilting designs Finishing the edges of your quilt Sample size is approx. 39 x 54” This quilt course is for the brand-new quilter and the experienced quilt maker alike, but please note that students MUST be able to operate a sewing machine and sew a straight line. If you're brand new and looking to start your sewing journey, check out one of of our Beginner Sewing Workshops. ***This class will run for 4 weeks on Wednesday evenings from 6:00pm - 9:00pm *** Class 1: Wednesday June 17, 2026 Class 2: Wednesday June 24, 2026 SKIPS Wednesday July 1st for Canada Day Class 3: Wednesday July 8, 2026 Class 4: Wednesday July 15, 2026 You can see more of Johanna's work here: https://www.johannamasko.com/ Material Requirements: Upon registration, students will receive a detailed materials list, including required fabric, notions, and other essentials. The list provides quantities based on your chosen quilt size. Not all materials are needed for the first class, so you can gather them as you go—no need to worry about having everything upfront! Please refer to the emailed list after registering for this class. A sewing machine with a walking foot is required for this class. All notions can be purchased from the Sewing Machine Sales & Repair Centre with a 15% student discount. Thank you and Happy Sewing!
